Getting Involved

Partnership and engagement are essential to Capacity: The Centre for Research in Community Engagement and Gender Equity. To be effective, our work depends on community–academic collaboration. By working hand‑in‑hand with diverse partners—ranging from frontline service providers to anti-racist and gender equity advocates—we seek to co-create research that is deeply rooted in lived experience, ensuring findings and recommendations are both relevant and transformative. Such collaboration enriches the research process by fostering knowledge exchange, building trust, enhancing capacity, and laying the groundwork for sustainable impact—benefiting both the communities involved and academic partners .

Capacity’s commitment “to develop, test and inform practices, programs and policies that positively affect the well‑being of people who regularly experience health and social inequities” is only possible when partners are engaged from start to finish. This mutual engagement ensures that studies address real-world needs, are culturally responsive, and yield tangible benefits. It also supports capacity and sustainability by embedding skills, infrastructure, and ongoing learning into communities.

If you’re interested in contributing—whether as a research partner, community advisor, or student/trainee collaborator—Capacity welcomes you.
